On 14 June – 2 July 2010 , SMAN 10 Malang Sampoerna Academy send 2 students to go to New Zealand. They studied visit in “Onslow” College. The students are Naasa Ahmad Fikri and Rizky Nur Zairina. They were accompanied by Mrs. Niken Asih Santjojo (principal) , Mr. Aji Suryanto ( Sampoerna Foundation ) , and Mrs. Anis Ken Hapsari ( English Teacher ).
This is the story of my experience when I studied in New Zealand for three weeks and stayed with homestay parents.
My trip experience
It was my first trip to go overseas . I never thought that i could go abroad and visit a nice city , Wellington in New Zealand . I was happy to have my trip because i could visit Singapore and Sydney in Australia for transit. From the trip , I knew the way to check in , paid airport tax , filled the form , showed the passport, boarding pass and did the other things .
The flying time when i went from Jakarta to Wellington was 12 hours 10 minutes because i needed to transit in Singapore , but when i went back from Wellington to Jakarta without transit in Singapore was 11 hours 35 minutes . i like to spend my trip in the plane because i got delicious meal , nice service , and felt the entertainment things. I also could see Indonesia , Australia , Singapore and New Zealand from the sky . Those were very beautiful. I could see many lights at night ,see the sunrise and sunset.
I visited some international airports with good security such as Soekarno Hatta in Indonesia , Changi Airport in Singapore , Kingsford Smith in Australia and Wellington Airport in New Zealand. I found unique things in different airports like boomerang and wool.I met many people with different cultures and nationality. It was very interesting.
I remembered when i had flight from Sydney to Wellington , there was a woman sick and needed more oxygen , the flight crew helped her quickly and at that time we will landing but the weather was really bad. That made me anxious , but finally we were safe and arrived in Wellington . I was happy because I could meet Mrs. Hali Balfoort , Mrs. Carolyn , My homestay parents and Naasa’s homestay parents.
My important , relevant activities
I did many activities to get experiences. I enjoyed my activities in Onslow College. I like their learning style. The students can choose six subjects which they like . We have 5 spells ( study time ) in one day and 1 hour for each spells. In 1 hour , we manage our time to study theory and practical .
We also have form time. Form time is such an interval time between the spells. In the form time the teacher will inform the update information about many things and ask for reason if the students absent or come late in the last day spells. There is also an activity called assembly. In assembly , the students perform something for fifteen minutes at the same time when usually we have form time. So we don’t have form time if we have assembly.
On 29 June 2010 , international students had farewell party because there were few students will go back to their country . In the farewell party , i could foster my relationship with my friend , we had karaoke together , ate pizza , took pictures etc. At that time , the students who would go back to their country got certificate from Onslow College.
I also enjoyed my activities at home . I made fried rice for my homestay parents and they like it . I helped them everyday and sometimes , I played with mazen ( my homestay parent’s son ).
Contacts or buddies that I have made
I like to made friends with some students in Onslow College and some people around me.i have made friends with people who have same ages , younger and older then me .I also have friends from other college and intermediate in wellington. One of them is maori . I always met them in the bus stop when i wanted to go to school. I have friends from Pakistan , India , Fiji Island and Indonesian who lived in New Zealand . I knew them when I joined my homestay parents to come in Pakistani birthday party and meet moslem community in a mosque. I also have friends from New Zealand ,China , Japan , Brazil , Vietnam, Malaysia , Singapore , England , German , Hongkong etc. I have their contact via email, facebook or phone number. I still communicate with them till now .

What I have learnt
I learnt a lot of things. At school , I learnt some subjects such as mathematic in NCEA level 2 and 3 ( calculus ), physics , chemistry , biology in NCEA level 2, english as second language and New Zealand studies. In New Zealand studies , I learnt about the film comparison of the famous film director , Peter Jackson . I learnt to speak english when i had conversation with people around me .I learnt the way they studied. It was really manageable. The students were actived to raise their hands to ask or answer the questions and share their opinions. I like the way they make make the schedule , do the experiment ,test and give homework for the students.
I learnt how to manage my time because i should not come late to school or at the spell. I knew about their lifestyle , Kiwi accent , health , cleanliness and i have knew about New Zealand when i visited Te Papa Museum and knew about maori from my friend.
I learnt to be an independent girl and got experience to stay in the host family . i learnt to make my host parents felt happy and I got advice from my host father about what to do after graduation and choose university. I learnt the way to take the bus by my self .I learnt the way to socialize with many people from different cultures and ages .I learnt their relationship .I learnt from my friends about enterpreneurship because as I know that some students were going to work after school or selling chocolate at school. That was very interesting

In my mind , this experience was very precious for me. I could learn many things and meet nice people. I hope my experience can give you inspiration and motivation in your life .
